OK Office

The Opisina ng mga Kababihan (OK) was a project of the City of Muntinlupa. Its primary role was to aid and empower women so that they would be productive members of the community.

The project provides, among others, for scholarships for women who desire to learn technical or vocational skills. The women who participated in the seminar were grantees for a short course on physical therapist.

Mr. Ben Damian explained that the office was very active in the community in order to provide opportunities for women to grow and develop.

There are various other projects which the office was engaged in. The notable project they had was rag weaving, wherein they were able to successfully "wake-up" the women in a particular area so that they would be able to earn additional income aside from those they received from their husbands, who were working usually as tricycle drivers. Mr. Ben Damian took pride that this project was a success, in terms of the quantity that were produced and sold. He wanted other projects to be supported in the same manner for the benefit of the women and the community in general.

It is interesting to known that an office such as OK was established in the City of Muntinlupa - thanks to the support of the local government officials. This should give ground to the establishment of other offices in other local governments in the Philippines in order to empower women all over the country.
